Meet Smudge and her 5 kittens!
Smudge was down on her luck and homeless when she found a kindly family in Barry to take her in and give her food and shelter. They had pretty much already decided to keep Smudge when they noticed that she was getting suspiciously big around her tummy! That's when they called SHUA to ask for help.
As the big day approached, we settled Smudge into one of our Mum and Baby pods with a nice snuggly cardboard birthing box and blankets. For a fortnight Smudge was perfectly contented … but when it came time to give birth, she decided that she preferred one of the dome beds we had given her!
Smudge birthed 5 kittens on the 4th of May - with no noise and no fuss. She just got on with it quietly by herself - a total star. Smudge is a fantastic mum and adores her babies.
Smudge had 5 kittens: a ginger boy (Smudger) who has already gone to his new home; a tiny black girl (Smidge - now Maisie) who has been adopted by one of our volunteers; Smudgums (a tortie - so female); Smirk and Smirf (both black, both female).
Smudgums is a mini-version of Smudge in both looks and personality. She's great fun to play with and is becoming a good little cwtcher too. Her sister Smirk is equally forward. They are both initially a bit shy around new people, but soon warm showing their usual playful, naughty selves! Smirf looks identical to Smirk (Smirf is not pictured below) but she is far less confident at the moment - but we will continue working with her and she's bound to come around soon. Most kittens can't resist play and cuddles and love for long!
If you would like to adopt any of Smudge's kittens, then please get in touch.
