This is Padma. She came to SHUA in November last year. She had managed to get herself locked in someone's shed for over a week and when she was finally let out, set up camp in their back garden and refused to leave!

Paddy (as her foster mum Linda calls her) had a very traumatic experience before she came to SHUA. She was absolutely terrified of both people and other cats. You can sometimes still see the fear and sadness in her eyes. It has taken a very long time to gain Paddy's trust and to help Paddy work through her traumas. She has come a very long way and is now ready and very deserving of a secure and loving home.

A far cry from the confused, scared cat we met all of those months ago, Paddy is now a loving, happy little cat who will curl up at the end of your bed and sleep soundly all night long. If you don't play with the laser pen with her she actually asks you to (ok, insists). She is very talkative and chirrups to her foster mum and dad frequently. She loves cuddles and even does being picked up. And she is a curious little cat, always looking for new nooks and crannies to explore around the house - watching you prepare the evening meal from the top of the kitchen cabinets and the like. And when the time is right, she would love her own little garden to explore.

Because of her past traumas, Paddy needs an experienced cat owner who will exert a calming influence on her. She isn't a perfect cat - she does still have some issues and may always have - but she is so loving and playful and just needs someone who is willing to accept her "warts and all". Paddy finds meeting new cats very stressful. We initially thought that she would never cope in a multi-cat household but have since been proved wrong. Initially, Paddy is aggressive to other cats but this calms down within a few days and she has actually made friends with some of the other cats at Linda's house. She just needs cats who are relaxed and unphased by bad language and the odd chase or swipe - chilled out, "whatever" kind of cats.

We can promise you that once you meet her, you'll fall in love just like we have.
