This is Knoll. She is a beauty isn't she?! Knoll was found in Sully Woods in October last year, during a thunder storm. She was brought to us along with her two then-6-week-old kittens. Unfortunately, the stress of the move to SHUA initially caused her to reject her kittens. Thankfully, they were old enough to be started on solid food and gobbled it up gratefully - though obviously they would have been better off still supplementing this with Mum's milk if it had been possible.

Over the coming weeks, Knoll gradually calmed down so we gave her kittens back to her - but she just wasn't interested in them. We decided that the best thing was to separate them once and for all - it had to happen eventually and the kittens were big enough and healthy enough to cope without their feline Mum.

We can only guess that Knoll was someone's pet and absolutely adored her owners. She was then abandoned and this has had a detrimental effect on her: she is terrified of being abandoned again. She has learnt that people let her down and that the best way to survive is to trust and rely on only herself. It has taken us many months to get past the forceful barrier that she erected - but what we have found underneath is a very affectionate and loving little cat. She happily plays, relaxes, sunbathes and enjoys a cuddle - it just has to be on her own terms. The rule with Knoll is simply that you ask first rather than assume that she wants a cuddle: as long as you tell her what you are going to do first and offer her a sniff of your hand, she seems fine and enjoys it. By doing this, she even lets us pick her up for a cuddle.

Knoll has obviously had some terrible experiences with both people and other cats. She was so terrified that over time she learnt how to defend herself and to deny herself any companionship. After 6 months at SHUA, she is finally learning how wonderful and rewarding human company can be.

We think that Knoll would be best suited to a stables or other semi-rural setting - she needs her own space and does just fine with just herself for company - no need for other cats thankyou! Over time and with some patience, she will show you what a fantastic little companion she can be.
