Meet Cristil and The Tips!
Cristil was rescued from Ely in the last week of June, with four 4-week old kittens, who are collectively known as The Tips!
She has had a REALLY tough time and is still recovering from it. She was obviously someone's pet at some point but has been very badly traumatised. Whether she was treated badly by her previous owners or whether it was humans she encountered while living on the streets, we will never know. All we can say for sure is that something has happened to her to make her lose her faith and trust in humans.
Just look at that beautiful face. How can anyone treat animals so badly? Poor Cristil had not been spayed and got pregnant. Her next problem was how to look after her kittens as well as fend for herself. She coped by scavenging in bins and literally eating rubbish. Her gorgeous long coat was terribly matted and patches of fur were missing - probably getting snagged and ripped along the way. But her eyes are young and her spirit is strong. All in all, she did a fantastic job for those first 4 weeks of her kittens' lives - that she kept them alive is remarkable enough but actually they were all in a pretty reasonable condition too.
Cristil was very stressed when she got here. We didn't even want to touch her for the first few days because she just got so hysterical, which does neither her nor her babies any good. Gradually, she is calming down. We stroke her and she lets us, although she growls. She just doesn't know if we are going to hurt her, poor baby. She has so much promise though and we are very hopeful that with a few weeks of intensively working with her, we can gain her trust and get her to relax properly. Her kittens are all happy little soldiers. They play and scamp about in their pen - and are happy enough to pose for the camera, as you can see!
Cristil's kittens should be ready to view in mid-late July, after their 7 week health check. We don't rehome kittens until they are approx 8-9 weeks, depending on how big, strong and confident they are, based on advice given by our vet for each individual kitten. We hope that Cristil will also be ready for you to meet by the end of July so please watch this space!
If you are thinking of adopting Cristil and / or her kitten(s), then please get in touch.
