No, your eyes do not deceive you. This is indeed a bunny rabbit at a cat rescue shelter. Could things be any worse for poor Benjamin?! Not only was the poor little fella found hopping about Cardiff clearly lost, he was picked up and brought to SHUA with all of the cats and the guard dogs here!

Benjamin was quite clearly someone's pet. He knows people, he knows how to be picked up and he knows cuddles. He even knows rabbit harnesses for going for walks. But noone has come forward for him.

Poor Benjamin has been here for several months now. He is desperately in need of a family. Life at SHUA is doing him no good at all. We started letting him run around the garden on a harness and retractable doggy lead. He enjoyed that. Unfortunately though, so did a few of our resident cats. There aren't many cats who would contemplate taking on a live rabbit but we just happen to have a few here (no names mentioned Castrol, Renoir & Tom). So walks in the garden had to stop. Instead, he gets his exercise inside one of the cat buildings (with no cats roaming free of course).

And then there is Luca, one of our guard dogs. Luca LOVES rabbits. Luca will happily spend ALL day camped out in front of Benjamin's hutch. He will bring Benjamin ALL of his favourite toys and never tires of watching anything Bejamin does, even if it is sleeping. And when Benjamin's hutch is cleaned each day, Luca tries to steal Benjamin's vegetable sticks. The thing is that Luca wants to eat Benjamin (sorry any kids reading this). Also, of course, we don't think that Benjamin is very impressed with the big woofums hanging out outside his hutch all the time. It can be a bit intimidating. Luca doesn't do anything - he wouldn't dare - but just his presence is probably a bit daunting.

Benjamin needs a family who have lots of time to lavish on him and a nice lawn for him to hop about on. He craves attention but we just can't give him what he needs here. In fact, if anything, he has introverted a little bit while being here simply because of all of the cats and woofums around. Male rabbits are known for being pretty clean and Benjamin is no exception. He could happily have a hop about your lounge while the kids watch tv and you wouldn't have to worry about any mess. Especially if you put a rabbit size litter tray down for him. He has certainly been very clean when he has gone for hop-abouts inside at SHUA.

Oh, and did I mention how cute he is?
