Goods for our Charity Shop
As most of you will know, we have a charity shop at 107 High Street in Barry. We sell 'new and nearly new' items - mainly clothes, books, videos, CDs, and bric-a-brac; really anything that is in good condition and suitable for sale in a charity shop.
Donations of goods should be dropped off at the charity shop please, not the shelter if possible - we have recently acquired another back room, making it easier for us to store & sort donations on site.
Toys, bedding, food etc.
With so many cats and kittens coming through SHUA, we use a lot of bedding and toys. We will always need cat beds, soft, comfy bedding, carpet squares (sample size, to go inside the pens), towels, scratch posts (and activity centres) and toys. Any donations of these items would be incredibly useful, whether new or second-hand.
As you can imagine, food is quite a sizable chunk of our monthly budget. As a charity, we are entitled to ask the major pet food manufacturers each quarter for donations of surplus food stocks held, which we do. On top of these quarterly donations, food still represents more than 15% of our annual spend (04/05 figures).
Any donations of food that you would like to make would always be gratefully accepted (especially treats such as fish or chicken!). Perhaps you could approach your local supermarket and ask if SHUA could have a foodbin on their premises.
Please contact us if you wish to donate directly to SHUA, or are able to arrange for a foodbin to be placed in your local supermarket.
Goods for recycling
You and your friends can help raise money for SHUA by helping us to recycle various materials. Collected in large enough quantities, the following materials can be sold to recycling companies, thus benefitting both SHUA and the environment:
- Aluminium: any drink cans, cat/dog food square-foil-tray packaging, foil takeaway cartons, used tin foil (or even used foils from your local hairdressers)
- Rags: any old clothes, bedding, or material of any sort that isn't in a good enough condition to be resold at our charity shop can be sold for rags.
- Printer ink cartridges: could you ask your boss if SHUA could recycle their empty printer ink cartridges? Home printer ink cartridges are also recyclable.
Other
Perhaps you could ask shops & businesses in your local area if they are able to donate (goods or otherwise) to SHUA.
If you would like further information or can think of another way in which you might be able to help SHUA, please get in contact with us.
