Maisie Maisie

Maisie & her two siblings were thrown away in a binbag straight after they were born. When SHUA rescued them they were all soaking wet & had been there for at least 24 hours. They were all very ill because they had been taken from their Mum before she had been able to clean them up immediately after their birth. Sadly, only Maisie survived.

Maisie had systemic blood poisoning because of her poor start in life & the septacaemia meant that she had huge 'boils' that needing lancing every day & treating with tea tree oil. Because she was so tiny when all of this happened, the craters left by the boils have grown with her & are still visible today.

Maisie

Blood poisoning at such a young age can adversely affect the normal growth process & Maisie still has problems with her back legs & her eyesight. Maisie lives life in the slow lane except, of course, when there are treats such as chicken around, when she becomes quite sly and sneaky! Despite such a traumatic start to life, Maisie, who is blissfully unaware that there is anything wrong with her, is a perfectly happy pussycat and is a permanent resident at SHUA.

Maisie also has a very special friend and penpal called Gemma who regularly sends her gifts & food, including her very special collar with a heart shaped nametag.

Maisie is honoured to be the official mascot of our local scout group - pictured above proudly wearing her scarf.

To this day, the smell of tea tree oil will send Maisie running for the hills!!
