Jasper - The ginger boy at the back

Jasper was born with a very rare eye deformity, effectively leaving him blind. This congenital eye defect meant that the surface of his eyes were constantly irritated by his over-sized eye lids. This resulted in permanent eye ulcers and pain so excruciating that he kept his eyes shut most of the time.

At first, noone knew quite what was wrong with young kitten Jasper's eyes. After many visits to the vets & various treatments, it became clear that he desperately needed surgery on both eyes. However, it would be an extremely complex surgery & so we were referred to the specialist eye clinic in Leominster. The senior vet at the Leominster eye clinic had only previously seen two similar cases in his entire 20 years experience.

Jasper had two extensive operations, in total costing more than £1,200.

Before Jasper had the surgery, he was adopted, along with two other kittens from SHUA. His new family & SHUA worked very closely to coordinate care for Jasper between the two operations & his follow-up appointments. It took many weeks of rest with various drops being administered & protective coverings needed for his healing wounds. Recovery was, perhaps, more difficult for us than for Jasper himself - for the first time in his life he was actually able to see & was desperately making up for lost time, jumping around & playing like any other kitten!

As you can see from the pictures, Jasper has fully recovered & is just an adorable boy (with priceless eyes)!
