No, your eyes don't deceive you! These two rabbits were abandoned by their owners and left to starve. SHUA intervened and after a short stay with us, a lovely lady called Zoe adopted them. She recently got in touch with us and enclosed a letter that she had written, introducing her two new fluffy friends to her niece and nephew in Australia. We thought it was so nice that we wanted to include it on the site for all of our supporters to see!

Dear Shua

Hello our names are Benjamin Bunny (White) and Peter Rabbit (Brown). We now live with Aunty Po but we have not always been so lucky. We thought we would write and tell you our tale.

We were born in a stable about 3 years ago and lived with lots of other Rabbits. Things were very crowded but we shared a cage with 2 floors so it wasn't too bad.

One day the two-legs that looked after us packed most of our friends into a big van went away and never came back. Things were scary for a little while and we missed our friends but some people came from the stable next door and moved us in with a big four-legs.

At first we were frightened by four-legs but we soon found out that he ate hay like us and was called Horse. We soon became friends and had many chats and games of eye spy (when there were no two-legs around to see of course).

The two-legs came every day to see Horse, feed and brush him and clean out his stable. They gave us food and water and sometimes, if we were lucky, they would clean our cage but not very often.

One day the two-legs came and took Horse away and we never saw him again. The two-legs still came to feed us and give us water but they began to come less and less.

We were very worried until one day a couple of two-legs came and put us in a little plastic box. The box moved around a lot which felt very odd. After a while the box stopped moving and we were put back into our cage. The light was very bright not at all like being in the stables. The best thing though was that the cage was all clean with lots of fresh hay and water.

The next day the two-legs came back and took us out of our cage again. This time they put us in a big place with funny green stuff on the ground that the two-legs called grass. We didn't know what it was but Peter is very brave and decided to try nibbling it to find out. It tasted very nice so we both ate some.

The place was very big and after we had sat for a while looking around and eating grass we went for a hop around. It was amazing, we had never been anywhere so big, it took ten hops to get from one side to the other!

After a couple of days Aunty Po arrived (Of course we didn't know that was her name then). She took us out of our cage and stroked our fur. It was a strange feeling and a little scary, but quite nice and we both decided we liked being scratched behind the ears.

We were put back in the little plastic box and again it moved around a lot. When it stopped we were somewhere new again, with a new cage and a slope down to grass that we could use whenever we wanted.

For the next few weeks we stayed outside in the cage and grassy pen during the days and nights but in the evenings Aunty Po would take us into the house where we had a big pen to run around in. We had to learn to use a litter tray as a toilet, it was hard at first as we weren't used to it but we soon worked it out.

Now that the weather is turning dark, cold and wet we spend most of our time in our pen in the house. It is lovely and warm and we have loads of space to run around and as you can see from the photos we have lots of toys to chew and roll and throw, we even get to watch the television! Peter really loves throwing the toy carrot and I love hiding in our big box and chewing on it too.

Aunty Po is very kind to us she gives us grass and carrots to eat and we always have clean water and fresh hay all the time now.

We have to go now as Aunty Po will be home soon, you see we've escaped from our pen and are writing this while hiding under the table. I don't think she will mind too much but we better get back where we belong. Hopefully we will be able to get out again soon and send you another note.

Love from

Benjamin Bunny and Peter Rabbit
