Saffy was a sweet little girl who came to SHUA in September 2006. One of a seemingly endless flow of elderly cats who are abandoned by their owners at their most vulnerable. Saffy was suffering from hyperthyroidism - which, left untreated, can cause organ damage and ultimately death.
We settled Saffy in with another of our newcomers, an old boy we called "Custard", with the intention of integrating both of them with our resident "silly old sods" after their initial isolation period.
Sadly, Saffy didn't make it. She became very talkative for a few days and then stopped eating one day. We thought it was a blip but when we came down the following morning and found Custard waiting for us at the door, we knew something was wrong. Inside, we found Saffy curled up in her bed - she had gone to sleep and simply not woken up again.
Saffy was only with us for a few weeks but we all remember her well. She was a gentle little spirit and we are all sad that we didn't get more time with her. We can only take comfort that in her last few weeks she did finally know kindness and love. Rest in Peace Saffy.
