Peril came to SHUA in August 2006. He had been found straying and was very ill with flu, so had been taken to a local vets who then contacted us.
Peril was so ill with flu that we didn't know if he would pull through - but with some medication and tlc, he did get better. Peril became a permanent resident at SHUA and earned his name when we introduced him to the other cats at SHUA - this old boy had absolutely no fear! He attacked both of our guard dogs - one is a rottie, leaving them terrified of him. He forged himself quite a high rank among the cats in our colony - an achievement for such a frail-looking old man!
As a result of the flu, Peril was left with a permanently snuffley chest. This didn't seem to bother him in the slightest - but made things rather amusing because you could always hear him approaching, like Darth Vader!
Peril was a very friendly, inquisitive and surprisingly agile old boy. Sadly, we had Peril euthanased on the 4th of October 2007, just over a year after he came to us. The nasal discharge, which he had always had, increased in August and his appetite had started to decrease. We did what we could for him but he was a very old man and really Peril made the final decision himself - it was simply his time to go. He was a real character and his fiesty manner always made us laugh. We all miss him dearly.
