Bruce came to SHUA after he was injured in a road traffic accident - which he caused! He was badly injured and had to have his left hind leg amputated. The vets who alerted us to his plight offered to do the amputation if we agreed to take Bruce in - otherwise they would have no choice but to put him to sleep.

Bruce had lived on the streets for quite a few years - he was a real "tough man" and assumed the duty of security officer at SHUA, deputy to the head of our colony, Tomas. Whenever there was a fight at SHUA, Bruce would be first on the scene - acting as peace-keeper, breaking it up. Having only 3 legs rarely bothered Bruce and in fact sometimes he clean forgot - trying to stand up on his hind legs to raise both front paws at an aggressor but promptly falling over!

Bruce was really lovely boy - he was just the sweetest most loving little cat and would lie down on your chest for hours cuddling if you would let him.

After Tomas retired as number 1, we all assumed that the younger, fitter Bruce would step up and assume command. But, as it turned out, Bruce's allegiances were primarily to Tomas and when he retired, Bruce followed suit. They had both (purely by choice) been outdoors cats at SHUA but now they both moved into our "silly old sods'" conservatory and lived out the rest of their days sunbathing and relaxing, enjoying good food and as many cuddles as they could get.

Sadly, Bruce developed kidney failure and as it progressed, he also developed stomatatis, a painful mouth condition which makes it increasingly difficult to eat. We mushed his food and did everything we could for him for several months but eventually we had to accept that his time had come. Bruce was euthanased late in 2006. He was a really loving cat and we all miss him terribly.
